Youth Action for Prevention (YAP)
The purpose of the Youth Action for Prevention project is to increase the knowledge that Saskatchewan youth (ages 14 to 24) have about the interconnected issues of alcohol use and related harms, such as: risky sexual behaviours; violence; unplanned pregnancy; and FASD. The ultimate goal of YAP is for youth to create resources and/or programs that will increase awareness and encourage their peers to replace potentially risky behaviours with healthy ones.
To fulfill this goal, diverse youth throughout Saskatchewan have been enlisted to form the YAP Youth Advisory Committee. The Prevention Institute will support these youth in designing a campaign they believe will be successful among their peers. They will then be able to take this peer-to-peer awareness strategy back into their communities and implement it to initiate real change.
