Statistics
Between 1995 and 2005, 616 children and youth between birth and 19 years of age died from unintentional injuries due to motor vehicle incidents, drowning, fires, poisoning, falls, cycling incidents, pedestrian incidents and other. (Ministry of Health - Government of Saskatchewan, 2008).
In Canada between 1990 and 2003 there were 631 drowning incidents in children aged birth to 14. Thirty of these incidents resulted in death. (Public Health Agency of Canada, 2005).
35% of these incidents occurred at home, and of these, 39% occurred in the bathroom.(Public Health Agency of Canada, 2005).
