FASDlive 2012: Our Master of Ceremonies

FASDlive

Over the past few weeks, we have shared information about some of our presenters. For a slight change of pace, we would like to share information about our Master of Ceremonies.

Featured Speakers

Master of Ceremonies: Myles Himmelreich

Myles HimmelreichMyles Himmelreich is a young man from Alberta who has dedicated his life to teaching others who have an FASD. He uses his personal experiences to candidly talk about:

  1. the barriers he has faced,
  2. his capabilities, and
  3. what he needs to  succeed day-to-day

In spite of ongoing struggles, Myles has developed ways to overcome them. As he shares his story, he talks about strategies that have been effective for him, such as writing down reminders repeatedly and paying his bills on the same day each month. He also shares ideas for caregivers and professionals on how to best support a person with an FASD.

Myles is a respected presenter, mentor, and motivational speaker. He has made keynote addresses at several national and international conferences. He is a contributor to a book about FASD and has appeared in various videos. One, called FASD: Realities and Possibilities - The Myles Himmelreich Story, was produced by the Saskatchewan Prevention Institute. You can order this video for free from http://www.preventioninstitute.sk.ca/alcohol-tobacco-and-other-drugs/resources-and-links .

Inviting Myles to serve as our Master of Ceremonies was an easy decision. Members of the conference planning committee have seen him present and serve as MC at various conferences. He is a success story and an inspiration for many individuals with FASD and those who support them. He has a great sense of humour, passion, and an excellent message. Myles has also volunteered to present a concurrent session so he will be a very busy man at the conference.

Myles has done presentations throughout Saskatchewan and we always enjoy working with him and learning from him. If you have not yet heard him speak, we encourage you to attend FASDlive 2012 and take in his concurrent session. You can check out Myles at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fm3Ptp9ZMA.
